Darren has been a massive help in getting me in to drama school this year. His enthusiasm, endless knowledge and advice has been gold dust! Not only that but I will walk away with a confidence in my acting ability, something I wouldn't be able to have with out his encouragement and teaching.

From the first day I met Darren, I have been in awe of his energy, openness and passion for his craft. When I first decided I wanted to go to Drama School, I was an incredibly nervous, stuttering 17 year old, with little confidence in myself and my abilities, and had no clue what the Drama School process entailed. Darren helped me come out of my shell, creating a safe space to totally make mistakes and be myself! Before I met Darren I was feeling low and fed up with auditions having spent 2 years getting pretty close at several schools. But the first lesson with Darren was like a breath of fresh air, he reminded me what a joy acting is. I met the brilliant Darren on the foundation course at Guildford School of Acting. There are innumerable wonderful things to be said about this man, but if there’s one thing I’ve taken with me from classes with Darren, it’s the confidence to make a bold offer. To give it everything you’ve got and just let it come crashing down in all its glory, good or bad. A choice is a choice. And people need to see your choices.

But most of all, he possesses immeasurable enthusiasm for what he does and it spills out in the most infectious way. There wasn’t a lesson with Darren I wasn’t buzzing for, and there wasn’t a lesson we didn’t have a laugh. Darren Strange reminds me why we do it.

Darren is such a wonderful teacher because he tailors his teaching to you as an individual. I always felt like we were taking my characters in the direction that most suited me as an actor however I was always encouraged to take risks with the work. There was never a day I didn't look forward to my lessons with Darren and I can't thank him enough for all his help over the past couple of years, I know I'll still be bugging him with questions in years to come

Darren is such a brilliant teacher because he fills your toolkit for the long game, rather than spoon feeding you for a single monologue or scene. The lessons and techniques I've learnt from Darren I will carry with me throughout my training and career. I was a very self conscious actor when I first met Darren, he immediately put me at ease through his welcoming nature. Darren doesn't judge you, he encourages. He makes suggestions without directing, teaches you to think, feel and trust your work. He let me become my own actor rather than telling me who I should be. I feel certain I would not be the actor I am today without this man's help and infectious enthusiasm for theatre.

I find that whenever I try to talk about acting it sort of all ends up a bit mushy, yet with Darren I found myself somehow being perfectly comprehensible. I started to slowly find this in my acting. I think Darren's passion, kindness and willingness, in the words of Anthony Hopkins, allows him to demolish the myths and the psychobabble-gobbledygook that pass for theory with regard to acting.
